| The
Uruguayan Women Association of Florida (AMUF) is a non-profit,
501 (c) 3 organization founded in 2002 to help improve life
conditions for poor children in Uruguay. Searching
through filthy garbage or pleading for spare change, they
live with hunger and disease and have little hope for the
future.
AMUF
focuses on hunger and education. We believe that providing
food solves only part of the problem. If we want a better
future fo all, we need to concentrate on education the children.
In order to help change the way these children live, eat,
and think we must help to empower them - Physically, emotionally,
and socially - with food, healthcare, and education.
Almost
half of the children in Uruguay are growing up hungry and
lacking basic needs. One of every six adolescents does not
attend school.

Through
our efforts, more than one hungreg and fifty children have been
taken off the streets since 2002. Thanks to the constant support
from AMUF to several youth soup kitchens and socioeducational
centers in Uruguay, they are fed on a daily basis, provided
with social, emotional, and educational support and also receive
clothing, shoes and school supplies.
Since 2002, the Uruguayan Women
Association of Florida has sent seven contrainers with donations
for children homes, hospitals , and schools in the empoverished
area throughout the country.
AMUF
seeks the support of all those who can help. We accept financial
contributions as well as new and used clothes, toys, school
supplies, and medical equipment. Also, we are always looking
for people who can off their time and talents. |

"Another
World Possible" was the theme of the third World Social
Forum (WSM) held in January 2005 in Porto Alegre, Brazil.
At
AMUF, we believe that "another world is possible"
for the children of Uruguay and the planet. We envisions a
world without exclusions; a global community united in solidarity,
committed to a more just world.
"10
Cents will buy a pound of food for a hungry child.
Every dollar counts!"
